David Omwoyo is the Chief Executive Officer of the Media Council of Kenya. He has a Masters Degree in communications from the University of Leicester UK and Bachelor degree from Tanzania he has researched and written on the role of vernacular media in fanning ethnic animosity during Kenya’s 2007/08 post-election violence. Over the past 6 years, as the Managing Director for Waumini Communications-The Catholic Church owned communications outfit, he was tasked with a project to promote the role of radio in peacebuilding and rural development and oversaw the establishment of more than 18 radios to support devolution. Previously he was in charge of Institutional advancement and donor relations at Egerton university, Njoro.  Currently interested in new models to sustain public interest media as a way of ensuring freedom and independence and self-regulation of media to promote both freedom and independence.
